New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Assistant Director, Academic Program, Global Education reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost, Global Education and Outreach.
The Assistant Director, CBGL, is responsible for developing and administering UAE-based and regional academic programs in close coordination with faculty and global education leadership. The Assistant Director, CBGL, will also support special academic programs under the direction of the Head of Community- Based Global Learning.
Job Responsibilities:
- Works with faculty to plan community-based global learning activities for their courses offered during regular semesters
- Develops course schedules with faculty during J-term
- Develops seminar itineraries with faculty for regional academic travel and for visiting group programs
- Supports logistic organization of community-based global learning activities (initiating community contact, designing activity, advising on funding application, setting up trips and activities on and off campus, overseeing an activity evaluation, briefings and debriefings)
- Works on visa procurement and tracking
- Develops and supports UAE cultural orientation and integration programs for Visiting Students, both semester and short-term
- Develops and delivers workshops and orientation programs for faculty, classes, visiting students, and community partners as required
- Conducts feasibility visits to secure community partnership, inform instructional design, and assess risk/safety needs
- Supervises program development for local UAE-based CBGL activities
- Identifies and cultivates contacts in the local and regional community for course-related community activities
- Maintains an infrastructure (web-based and hard copy) of information on community-based global learning activities and pedagogies
- Builds and maintains a database of UAE and regional community contacts for faculty interested in connecting their classes to community-based global learning
- Following up with the CBGL community partners to facilitate longer-term relationships that can lead to student internships, undergraduate research or faculty research activity
- Works with NYUAD Finance, Nirvana Travel, External Relations, Student Health Center, Student Persistence and Accessibility, and other stakeholders to develop support infrastructure for the Community-Based Global Learning programs
- Liaises with the Office of Social Responsibility initiatives on programs of cultural orientation and engagement in the UAE for contracted staff and other members of the community
- Liaises with Human Resources, Student Affairs, Community Relations, Athletics, and the NYUAD Institute on implementing UAE-focused and global programs that require interoffice cooperation
- Enhances the presence of Community-Based Learning engagements on social media platforms
- Develops annual and monthly reports of Community-Based Global Learning engagements
- Ensures the archiving of Community-Based Global Learning engagements on the Global Education shared drive
- Supports the budget planning, projections, implementation, and reporting for Community-Based Global Learning projects in consultation with line manager
- Hosts VIP visitors to the campus (designs and implements the visit program)
Required Education
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
Required Experience
- 3+ years in a cross-cultural setting based in the UAE
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Planning /implementing special events and activities
- Excellent community network of contacts and/or proven ability to develop such a network
- Experience working with the Emirati and Arabic-speaking community
- Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic (both verbal and written) and the ability to work with people at all levels
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and database applications.
