New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Senior Manager, A&H Research Administration reporting to the Director of Humanities Research Hub.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Arts and Humanities Research Platform, the Senior Manager will oversee the platform’s operational structure and advance its mission to foster and support innovative research within the arts and humanities.

The Senior Manager will take the initiative in innovatively planning the A&H Research platform administrative infrastructure and regularly reviewing the existing administrative guidelines and policies, ensuring alignment and optimization of existing resources to support the ongoing divisional research portfolio.

The Senior Manager will manage the platform's day-to-day operations, including oversight of the embedded grants administrator, management of the research onboarding of new faculty, and guidance and mentorship to the administrative ecosystem within the platform. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for the space management, technological infrastructure, financial management, and development and implementation of the policies and procedures that support research activities and ensure compliance with institutional guidelines in liaison with relevant stakeholders, including Legal, Procurement, Finance, and Pre- and Post-award offices.

The role builds and cultivates strong connectivity on behalf of the Arts and Humanities Research Platform within the University, external departments, and with a global network of vendors, artists, and collaborators in support of faculty research and all the research units under the platform's umbrella.

The Senior Manager will be the lead point of contact between A&H faculty members, the Provost’s Office research administration units, and Procurement, Finance, and Legal offices.

The Senior Manager will be responsible for all the tasks associated with research outcomes and reporting, such as the Research in Review, Podcasts, Manara, Tamkeen faculty spotlights, and annual reports on research activities.

With thorough knowledge of internal and external funding sources and their respective requirements, the Senior Manager assesses faculty’s and the A&H research ecosystem’s immediate and future concerns and guides the implementation of the relevant strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Implementation & Communication Strategy:

  • Podcast Management: Oversee the production and distribution of the A&H-established podcast by promoting content
  • Implement the Platform's operational plans, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and efficient resource utilization
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Platform, including financial management, space management, and technological infrastructure
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support research activities and ensure compliance with institutional guidelines
  • Oversee the Platform's communication channels, including newsletter, website, and social media, as well as research in review publication

Oversee contracts and resource management:

  • In charge of the onboarding and advice of faculty members regarding the use of their research funding and related institutional processes
  • Develop and manage the drafting, review, and administration of Legal and Procurement agreements, ensuring compliance with regulations and organizational policies and serving as the focal point for the A&H division
  • Manage the Platform's operational budget, ensuring responsible and transparent financial management
  • Oversee the procurement and maintenance of equipment and resources
  • Assist with the development and implementation of strategies for optimizing resource allocation
  • Monitor budget expenditures and provide regular reports to the platform director

Program Delivery & Event Management:

  • Manage the logistical planning and execution of Platform programs, workshops, seminars, and conferences
  • Provide administrative oversight to the Research Kitchens
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure the successful delivery of program activities
  • Develop and implement evaluation strategies to assess the effectiveness of Platform programs
  • Manage the planning and delivery of workshops and learning opportunities that facilitate research and creative activity (i.e., Research translation, Mentorship in Research series, etc.)
  • Oversight of research activities organized by faculty and administrative coordinators, including external engagements, vendor/artist/company contracts, events, conferences, talks, etc.
  • Manage the development of A&H research materials (print, digital, presentations, videos, gift items, etc.) that showcase faculty accomplishments in partnership and coordination with the University Relations & Public Affairs Teams or third-party creative agencies

 Administrative Support & Coordination:

  • Coordinate with academic programs, central A&H administration, and external partners to ensure smooth communication and collaboration on behalf of the AHRP

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Education:

  • Master's Degree, Advanced degree or certificate in management
  • Continuing professional education in finance, data management, project management, grant management, grant writing, and research administration 

Required Experience:

  • 5 years or more of experience in executive and administrative services, with a record of advancement and growth at progressively more responsible levels, preferably with an established international company, private organization, or governmental body operating in the U.A.E.
  • Experience working with institutions of multinational nature.
  • Prior experience in a university setting

Ability to:

  • Exercise good judgment in safeguarding confidential or sensitive information
  • Accurately interpret department policies and procedures to guide faculty members
  • Work well under pressure, multi-task, and work extended hours if needed

  • Develop and revise policies and procedures applicable to assigned work areas.
  • Identify problems and analyze alternatives to develop viable recommendations for projects and assignments

Knowledge in:

  • Business English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation are required to produce analytical and technical reports in appropriate formats
  • Principles and practices of administration in planning and organizing programs and events
  • Training program development needs assessment and analysis, monitoring and evaluation methods, and control systems to establish and monitor programs

Skilled in:

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Problem-solving with strong attention to detail
  • Examining and re-engineering procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and methods

Preferred Experience:

  • 5+ years program delivery with an educational or training organization
  • Proactive attitude with the ability to work independently under general supervision
  • Forward-thinking with the ability to execute a step-by-step action plan
