New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Manager for Student Support Coaching reporting to Associate Director, Student Success & Well-being.
The Manager for Student Support Coaching will partner with the greater Student Persistence and Well-being team on the creation and implementation of primarily one-to-one and also group coaching resources designed to foster the personal, social and intellectual development of students and to cultivate a sense of belonging and connection to NYUAD and the division of Student Affairs. The Manager will focus on the needs of NYUAD’s uniquely international student body, and will serve as a liaison to the Student Persistence and Accessibility team as a conduit for the establishment of coaching pathways for students with accommodations. The Manager will also support the team in building out coaching mechanisms of support for neurodivergent students and students of determination. Supporting neurodivergent students means creating an inclusive and flexible learning environment that acknowledges and embraces the unique ways they process information. It’s essential to recognize that neurodiversity enriches the overall NYUAD experience, and with the right support, every student can thrive
A significant component of the Manager’s portfolio will be primarily one-to-one coaching for students, working also with small groups as needed. This coaching will be informed by evidence-based, best practices in academic coaching and wellness interventions in higher education - data-driven and tailored to fit the dynamic needs of NYUAD students. Coaching will address common and emerging challenges to student well-being and successful college transition including social and academic stress, imposter syndrome, perfectionism and procrastination. Coaching will focus on the development of specific skills and competencies such as resiliency, time-management, goal setting, navigating the college classroom, identifying and addressing barriers that affect learning and cultivating healthy relationships that lead to success in college and beyond. In addition to providing one-to-one and group coaching sessions, the Manager will partner with the Student Persistence and Wellbeing team to identify ways to increase outreach and build collaborative partnerships both divisionally and institutionally.
The Manager will also serve as an active contributor to Division-wide cross-functional teams, and also participate in signature programs, including admissions events, new student orientation, student leadership trainings, athletic programs, and more. This role will require some evening and/or weekend activities throughout the academic year.
Key Reponsibilities:
Under the leadership of the Associate Director of Student Support Coaching: deliver primarily one-to-one and also small group well-being and success coaching for students. Coaching will be guided by best-practices in the development of specific skills and competencies such as time-management, goal setting, navigating the college classroom, identifying and addressing barriers that affect learning and cultivating healthy relationships that lead to success in college and beyond
The Manager will engage with divisional and institutional stakeholders to identify opportunities to establish and/or expand collaborative efforts in order to continuously provide thoughtful and integrated support for the NYUAD student community
- The Manager will serve as a liaison to the Student Persistence and Accessibility team as a conduit for the establishment of coaching pathways for students with accommodations and developing resources designed to address the specific needs of these students. The Manager will also co-facilitate presentations during Marhaba, group presentations, in addition to supporting other programming initiatives
- The Manager will work to develop ways to highlight inclusivity, build understanding, and showcase the value of diverse learning styles of our students while also identifying tools for the Student Support Coaching team to utilize in one-to-one and group settings that fosters inclusive environments for all students. The Manager may also collaborate with the Student Persistence Team to identify ways we can support neurodivergent students, and students of determination through one-to-one and group coaching
- Collaborate with Student Affairs and University colleagues to support the planning and/or execution of programming, events, and activities. Participate in divisional functional teams to support cross-functional Student Affairs work in collaboration with other staff. This includes weekend and evening commitments during the academic year, and includes representing the Division and/or the AVC/DOS
Required Education:
- Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
Preferred Education:
- Doctoral Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or related fields
Required Experience:
- 3+ years experience working in higher education or related experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills, necessary for cultivating relationships and trust with students and colleagues
- Good judgment, discretion, independence and initiative. A capacity to work collegially and collaboratively in a university environment
- An ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects on tight deadlines, organized work habits, consistent accuracy, and attentiveness to detail
- Ability and willingness to work some evening/weekend hour
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable as changes arise
- Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills in English
- Collaborative spirit and ability to build partnerships/relationships with many people to achieve their goals
Preferred Experience:
- Lived or work experience in the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region
- Previous experience implementing wellness strategies in higher education or relevant organizational context
Previous experience serving first-generation college students and/or marginalized groups
- Demonstrated awareness of and commitment to operating within the sensitivities of a diverse context and culture
- Experience with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging frameworks, and how they impact student development
- Previous experience providing one to one coaching/counseling for wellness or success
- Researched and published work related to positive psychology interventions
- Self-sufficiency regarding technology and its uses
- Ability to make presentations in front of small – large groups
- Arabic language skills
