New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Coordinator, Student Persistence and Accessibility reporting to the Associate Director, Student Persistence & Accessibility.

The Student Persistence & Accessibility Coordinator will help with the implementation of primarily one-to-one and group awareness resources designed to foster the personal, social, and intellectual development of students and to cultivate a sense of belonging and connection to NYUAD and the division of Student Affairs. The role will focus on the needs of NYUAD’s uniquely international student body but will maintain a focus on the specific needs of students who are UAE nationals and residents.
The Coordinator role will include administrative support, event management, and one-on-one advising, specifically for UAE nationals and residents, working also with small groups as needed. The coordinator will assist with Accessibility programming and key initiatives by providing administrative support and collaboration to maximize student experiences and inclusivity. This involves aiding the team in organizing the exam proctoring process, referring students to the relevant offices/departments, participating in accessibility-related professional development, and planning meetings with relevant parties within and outside of NYUAD as advised by the Associate Director of the Program.
The coordinator role will support the Associate Director of Student Persistence and Accessibility in planning meaningful events for the students and participate in signature programs like new students’ orientation, resources fair, Student of Determination Social night, and Marhaba week, among other related events as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the implementation of reasonable accommodations for students of determination, including exam accommodations, assistive technology, note-taking services, and accessible classroom materials
- Serve as a resource for students, faculty, and staff on disability-related issues, including awareness training and best practices for creating an accessible learning environment
- Coordinate with academic departments, housing, and other campus offices to ensure accessibility to programs, services, and facilities
- Maintain accurate records of student accommodations and interactions in accordance with confidentiality guidelines as followed by the Moses Center counterparts in New York
- Stay informed of legal and regulatory updates related to accessibility and disability services in higher education
- Collaborate with external sponsors and their students to ensure business needs continuity
- Provide support to National Military Service Students as needed
- This role requires weekend availability for event support, email correspondence, and exam proctoring, especially during midterm and finals weeks
- Regularly monitor their email on weekends and respond promptly to inquiries
- Additionally, they are responsible for proctoring exams that may be scheduled on weekends or outside standard working hours. The coordinator should discuss scheduling and availability for these duties with their supervisor in advance
- Administrative support to Student Assistants, delegating tasks as needed by managing the exam proctoring process. Responsibilities include ensuring the exam rooms are booked, scheduling exams, and coordinating with faculty and student assistants. Additionally, the Coordinator will facilitate approved accommodations for housing, academics, and study-away programs, ensuring accessibility across all university locations
- Ensure the contracts of the student assistants are up to date, and their timesheets are uploaded in a timely manner while monitoring the budget tracking sheet and providing updates as needed to their supervisor
- Set weekly meetings with the student assistants, ensure they are fully trained, and are aware of the policies that govern their job
- Work with their supervisor in posting the job on Handshake, find the best candidates, and interview them
- Work with the CDC to ensure the applicants’ contracts are approved and they are on the system
- Collaborate with Student Affairs and University colleagues to support the planning and/or execution of programming, events, and activities
- Participate in divisional functional teams to support cross-functional Student Affairs work in collaboration with other staff. This includes weekend and evening commitments during the academic year and includes representing the Division at various events
- Other projects as directed by the Associate Director
Required Education:
- Bachelors Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Special Needs/Disability Education, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related fields.
Required Experience:
- 2+ years workign in higher education or related experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills, necessary for cultivating relationships and trust with students and colleagues
- Good judgment, discretion, independence and initiative
- A capacity to work collegially and collaboratively in a university environment
- The ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects on tight deadlines, organized work habits, consistent accuracy, and attentiveness to detail
- Ability and willingness to work some evening/weekend hours
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable as changes arise
- Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills in English
- Collaborative spirit and ability to build partnerships/relationships with many people to achieve their goals
- Arabic language skills are a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Budget tracking and time management
- Excellent student appointment scheduling and problem-solving
Preferred Education:
- Adobe/design experience
- Advanced MS Excel experience
Preferred Experience:
- Self-sufficiency regarding technology and its uses
- Ability to make presentations in front of small and large groups
- Excellent communication skills
- Arabic language is highly preferred by the candidate
