New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Institutional Reporting and Data Visualization Specialist.

The Institutional Reporting and Data Visualization Specialist will support the institution’s reporting needs by delivering comprehensive, innovative, and visually impactful solutions, including infographics, static reports, and interactive dashboards. These tools will effectively disseminate institutional findings, showcase strengths and excellence, and generate actionable insights. The aim is to enable data-driven decision-making, support institutional goals, evaluate effectiveness, ensure compliance, and contribute to continuous improvement and strategic planning efforts.

Key Responsibilities: 

Institutional Reporting and Data Visualization 

  • Develop (Static) Descriptive and Infographic Reports: Generate static descriptive or infographic visuals that present key facts, trends, and benchmarking information
  • Create and Maintain Interactive Dashboards: Design, build, and manage interactive, self-service reporting dashboards (for both structured and unstructured data)
  • Translate Static Reports to Interactive Visualizations: Convert existing static reports into dynamic, self-service visualizations to provide stakeholders with enhanced, real-time, data interaction capabilities

Report and Visualization Quality Assurance 

  • Create Comprehensive Documentation: Develop detailed documentation and training materials to ensure transparency and verifiability of all procedures used in generating reports and dashboards
  • Conduct Report Validation and Audits: Support report quality assurance efforts by performing validation and audits on reports. This includes checking for accuracy and consistency, and ensuring that all reports meet best practice standards for quality and reliability
  • Reporting and Systems Collaboration: Collaborate with information systems and data personnel from academic and business units to: a) enhance the quality and accuracy of institutional reports and dashboards; b) address and resolve reporting discrepancies; and c) provide clarification on reporting procedures

Other Activities/Duties 

  • Oversee the administration of reporting, infographic, and visualization software accounts
  • Manage the development of reporting content for inclusion on the departmental website and/or information portal
  • Provide training and support in institutional reporting tools and techniques – this includes enabling end-users to independently create/generate: surveys, static reports, and interactive visualizations with minimal assistance
  • Participate in professional development focused on data visualization and business intelligence, and stay updated on current trends in analytics and visualization within higher education

There will invariably be a need for the incumbent to assist with various ad-hoc accountability and/or compliance informational requests, coordinate special projects, and undertake other tasks that are logically related to (or necessary for) the position

Required Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in an analytical field (i.e., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Operations Research, Information Systems, Economics, Data Science, Computational Social Science) 

Required Experience:

  • At least five (5) years of related post-baccalaureate: professional experience in a formal organizational setting focused on data reporting, and interactive visualization
  • Excellent English written and verbal skills (and advanced Microsoft Word and PowerPoint experience) to communicate effectively across groups and levels in an effective and collaborative manner
  • Advanced Excel proficiencies (VLOOKUP, macros, pivoting capabilities, conditional statements, graphics, analysis modules, etc.)
  • Demonstrable experience preparing/creating graphics, tables, and automated dashboard visualizations from multiple data sources (i.e., Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, Google Data Studio, Domo, Looker, GoodData, Pyramid Analytics, etc.)
  • Infographics design and implementation (i.e., Visme, Piktochart, Canva, etc.)
  • Experience with metrics and KPI development
  • Highly detailed-oriented, commitment to data accuracy and consistency, and superior organizational and project management skills; self-initiated, highly motivated, flexible, and able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a multicultural team environment; work productively on multiple tasks under pressure with competing and inflexible deadlines; distill complex data and information requirements from a wide spectrum of requestors into valuable end-products; maintaining composure in an environment of constant quality improvement; and ability to exercise good judgment and discretion when navigating complex situations, handling confidential information, and processing personally identifiable data

Preferred Experience:

  • Tableau Desktop Certified Professional; Tableau Server Certified Associate; Microsoft Certified: Power BI Developer Associate
  • At least seven (7) years of related post-baccalaureate professional experience in a formal organizational setting focused on data reporting, and interactive visualizations
  • At least four (4) years of related professional experience in a university environment and/or setting, and a special knowledge of academic programs
  • At least two (2) years of related professional experience in an institutional research, effectiveness, quality assurance, information management, analytics, planning, or similar Office and/or comparable experience in higher education research a university environment and/or setting, and a special knowledge of academic programs
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, NYUAD’s vision, mission, and values

  • Familiarity with NYUAD databases and systems and deep understanding of linkages and dependencies across institutional student, faculty, research, financial, HR, and other data
  • Demonstrable Oracle business intelligence reporting tools and information builder experience
  • Familiarity with administration, management, and maintenance of Tableau Server and Tableau Online including user and group management; report publishing and distribution; and data extraction scheduling
  • Advanced data visualization tools (D3, Apache Superset, Shiny, ggplot2, matplotlib, plotly, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems and mapping tools
  • Working knowledge of MoE’s CHEDS framework, ADEK’s UScore Platform, IPEDS, Common Dataset
  • Familiarity with data governance and data privacy platforms (Collibra, OneTrust, etc.)
  • Understanding of personal data privacy-oriented regulations
  • Demonstrable experience with survey creation, administration, and analysis using various tools/platforms (i.e., Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey/Momentive, Explorance Blue, etc.)
  • Experience developing and modifying multiple graphic design visualization solutions through Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Implement and maintain streamlined processes for automated and reproducible institutional reporting
  • Familiarity managing projects, workflows, and tasks to improve efficiency, accountability, and transparency through tools and platforms (Monday.com, Asana, Trello, Jira, Wrike, etc.)
  • Experience with Generative AI
  • Experience with statistical analysis software (i.e., Stata, R, SAS, etc.)
