Yufeng Wu is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Division of Social Science at New York University Abu Dhabi. He received his PhD in Human Geography from University College London, where his doctoral research examined family structures, settlement intentions, and social integration among internal migrant workers in contemporary China. He also holds an MSc in Urban Economic Development from University College London and a BSc in Economics from City, University of London.
Wu's research focuses on migration and mobility, social integration, race and ethnicity, urban and population geography, housing, and land tenure, with a particular empirical focus on China. His recent and ongoing work examines how housing tenure, rural homestead land, family arrangements, and urban institutions shape migrant workers’ experiences of belonging, inequality, wage discrimination, and long-term settlement. At NYU Abu Dhabi, he is also involved in collaborative research on educational attainment, intergenerational mobility, and racial identity among the African second generation.
Wu’s work has been published in leading journals including Journal of Rural Studies, Population, Space and Place, Applied Geography, Journal of Family Studies, Asian Geographer, and The Singapore Economic Review. His recent article in Journal of Rural Studies examines the relationship between rural homestead land and migrant workers’ subjective integration in urban China, while his work in Population, Space and Place explores how housing tenure shapes perceived wage discrimination among Chinese migrant workers.
