Xiangyu Meng is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Social Science Division at New York University Abu Dhabi. She earned her Bachelor of Economics in Finance from Ocean University of China, a Master's degree in Economics at Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing, China, and a PhD in Economics from Georgia State University in 2022. She later spent 2.5 years in the AI and Machine Learning industry before joining NYUAD.
Meng's research focuses on environmental economics and sustainable development, specifically examining how human systems interact with the natural environment. She addresses these questions using a diverse range of methodologies, including quasi-experimental designs, RCTs, and machine learning. A central component of her work is the use of spatial data to analyze how environmental factors influence economic outcomes. Her recent research investigates the economic impacts of climate shocks and public policies on agriculture and farmers' livelihoods. Her work has been published in academic journals such as the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization and the Journal of Environmental Management.
