Christos Vlachakis is a Postdoctoral Associate at the Center for Smart Engineering Materials at New York University Abu Dhabi. Vlachakis received his BSc in Civil and Structural Engineering in 2014 at the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus. He obtained an MSc in Structural Engineering in 2017 and a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2021 from the University of Strathclyde. During his PhD, he worked on the development of 3D printed cement-based repairs for infrastructure monitoring. The project aimed at autonomously deploying self-sensing cement-based coatings onto existing infrastructure for strain and temperature measurements.

Prior to joining NYU Abu Dhabi, Vlachakis worked as a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, focusing on self-sensing and self-healing concrete, infrastructure monitoring, and data-driven analysis on road performance. He was also a Research Associate at Imperial College London, working on the experimental and numerical analysis of concrete pavements. His research at CSEM will focus on the development of self-sensing and self-healing and the design of structural health monitoring networks for oil and gas applications.
