Sandra Villata is a psycholinguist working on syntactic representations and syntactic processing. Her research seeks to answer the three driving questions of sentence-level language science: (i) what is the nature of the grammar? (ii) what is the nature of the human sentence processing system? and (iii) what is the nature of the relationship between the grammar and the human sentence processing system? At the empirical level, she uses several empirical techniques that can reveal fine-grained differences, such as acceptability judgments, self-paced reading, the maze task, and computational modeling.
