What is GradSlam?

GradSlam is an event where members of the NYUAD graduate and postdoctoral community will have the opportunity to present their research in a three-minute public presentation. GradSlam brings together the entire postdoctoral and graduate student community to help train and skill our postgrad scholars in how to communicate their research to a general audience.

This workshop will teach participants fundamentals of narrative and its power in effective communication. From there, participants will learn how to better construct their three-minute thesis presentations with strong narrative principles.

Workshop 4: Adapting Your Presentation to Different Mediums | 2-4pm
This workshop will address how the venue or occasion of the speech and media you are working with impacts your message, and how to leverage the situation to your advantage as a speaker. We will also discuss visual aids, how to use them to supplement your delivery, and what to do and what not to do in slide design.

A chance for our GradSlam Finalists to meet with our coaches for a 1:1 session to refine their three-minute presentation. Finalists will be able to book a 30-minute session.

Workshop 5: Loosening Up and In Person Rehearsals for Finalists | 2-5pm
Finalists of GradSlam 2023 will learn about speech anxiety and stage fright and practice skills to overcome them alongside having the chance to rehearse your actual presentation and get feedback before the final competition.
