Teaching, Learning, and Development Lab

The Teaching, Learning, and Development (TLD) Lab, led by Antje von Suchodoletz, Associate Professor of Psychology at NYU Abu Dhabi, investigates how children's learning and development are shaped by their interactions with caregivers and the broader sociocultural contexts in which they grow. Our research explores caregivers' attitudes, beliefs, caregiving practices, and engagement in activities such as play and shared book reading, with the goal of identifying factors that support children's developmental potential.

Our research focuses on two interconnected areas. First, we examine how controlled and automatic processes of self-regulation develop across sociocultural contexts and contribute to children's social-emotional competence and academic skills. Second, we investigate caregivers' own self-regulation processes and how they influence the quality of caregiver-child interactions and children's developmental outcomes.

To address these questions, we use a range of research methods, including laboratory-based cognitive tasks, behavioral observations, eye-tracking, biopsychological measures (such as salivary and hair cortisol), and classroom-based observational studies.
