Nurbol Ibadulla is a PhD student in Chemistry at New York University and a Graduate Research Assistant in Professor Panče Naumov’s Smart Materials Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi. He holds a master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pau and the Adour Region in France and a BSc in Chemistry from Glasgow Caledonian University in the United Kingdom. Before beginning his doctoral studies, he gained academic and industrial research experience in Kazakhstan, France, Belgium, and the United Arab Emirates.

Ibadulla's current research focuses on organic crystals for battery applications and advanced electrochemical energy storage systems. His broader experience encompasses lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and magnesium battery technologies, including electrode material development, cell design and assembly, electrochemical testing, surface analysis, and materials characterization. He has previously worked with Nazarbayev University and National Laboratory Astana, IPREM (Institute of Analytical Sciences and Physico-Chemistry for Environment and Materials), Saft (TotalEnergies), TaiSan, AVESTA, and Novocycle Technologies.

Ibadulla’s research has resulted in publications in RSC Advances, Batteries & Supercaps, and ECS Meeting Abstracts. His honors include an NYU PhD Student Fellowship in Chemistry, the Make Our Planet Great Again - Master Kazakhstan Scholarship, and a travel grant from the Electrochemical Society. In 2024, he and his team also received third place in an AI-Driven Drug Discovery Hackathon organized by Insilico Medicine.
