Ahmad Ghazal
Associate Research Scientist
Affiliation: NYU Abu Dhabi
Education: PhD University of Aberdeen
Research Areas: Mass Spectrometry data analysis
Ahmad Ghazal is an analytical chemist and mass spectrometry specialist whose career spans proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, and advanced bioanalytical method development, with over six years of hands‑on experience operating and interpreting data from a wide range of mass spectrometry platforms.
Ghazal began his scientific journey with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Gulf Medical University, followed by a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Analysis at Queen’s University Belfast, where he investigated "surface adsorbates of citrate-reduced gold nanoparticles through LC‑MS." He later completed his PhD in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Aberdeen, focusing on protein purification, venom peptide sequencing, and structural characterization. His doctoral work involved "sequence identification of scorpion venom peptides through mass spectrometry and transcriptomic data analysis,” as well as peptide synthesis and folding studies.
He later joined Bournemouth University as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, developing analytical protocols to measure chronic physiological stress in animals using diverse biological matrices such as hair, feathers, scales, and fur. His work contributed to advancing non‑invasive biomarkers of stress and improving ecological and conservation research methodologies. Ghazal joined the University of Glasgow as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Mass Spectrometry, where he investigated the biomolecular composition of microalgal species. His research integrates metabolomics, lipidomics, and proteomics to compare wild‑type and genetically modified strains, supporting innovations in biotechnology and sustainable bioresource development.
