Shubhankar Barman is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM), New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). His research explores structure–property relationships in functional organic molecular crystals, with particular emphasis on piezoelectricity, ferroelectricity, and piezophototronic coupling. He investigates how molecular packing, crystal symmetry, and mechanical deformation influence the electromechanical, optical, and charge-transport properties of noncentrosymmetric and polar single crystals.

Barman's expertise includes Piezoresponse Force Microscopy (PFM), Raman and dielectric spectroscopy, ferroelectric characterization, electrical and optoelectronic measurements, and electromechanical energy-harvesting evaluation. By integrating crystal growth, advanced materials characterization, and device fabrication, his work aims to advance flexible sensors, self-powered optoelectronic devices, and energy-harvesting technologies.

Summary of Research

Barman's research focuses on organic ferroelectric, piezoelectric, and flexible molecular crystals with mechanical adaptability (elastic/plastic). He works on electromechanical coupling, piezotronics, piezophototronics, and energy-harvesting device prototypes, integrating crystallography, spectroscopy, and electrical measurements.
