The Center for Cyber Security at NYU Abu Dhabi Set to Host World's Largest Student Event in Cyber Security

Press Release

The Center for Cyber Security (CCS) at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) has announced that it will be hosting Cyber Security Awareness Week (CSAW) competitions in Abu Dhabi from November 9 to November 11.

The event will feature 6 cyber competitions, keynote presentations, workshops as well as an industry fair. Participants of the event will include the winner teams of the best high school and university students, researchers, hackers and security analysts from the UAE as well as the wider Gulf and MENA region.

“This event is considered both an intense and sustainable capacity building venture for the cyber security discipline,” said Dr. Hoda Alkhzaimi, director of the Center for Cyber Security at NYUAD. She added: “The different actors that are facilitating this event are in the process of cultivating a long term research and development capacity across the MENA region, and are connecting these capacities with global influencers of the research, development and industrial movements in the field here in Abu Dhabi.”

The Center for Cyber Security at NYUAD continues to expand each year to attract the best emerging hackers and protectors to the increasingly critical field of cybersecurity. It has participated in collaborative efforts to make Cyber Security Awareness Week global, staging simultaneous final rounds for students not only in the US, but also across the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia and this year in Europe.

Since its debut in 2003 at the NYU Center for Cyber Security in New York, Cyber Security Awareness Week has become the world largest student-led cybersecurity event in the world, featuring international competitions, workshops, and industry events. The conference has brought together some of the biggest names, both academically and professionally, in the security field.

Cyber Security Awareness Week MENA is managed by a team of undergraduate and graduate students, and researchers from the Center for Cyber Security in NYUAD.

The Center for Cyber Security at NYUAD is  aiming to establish a world class cyber security center by partnering with key local universities, industry and government agencies in order to facilitate cyber security research, education, and practice in the UAE and GCC region. The center will act as a catalyst to improve cyber security in the UAE and enhance its regional and global competitiveness in this field.
