Nidal Hilal, Professor of Engineering and Director of the NYU Abu Dhabi Water Research Center, has been named among NYU scholars on the Highly Cited Researchers 2024 list. Compiled annually by Clarivate Analytics, the list recognizes researchers whose work is widely cited across various fields.
This prestigious acknowledgment places Hilal among the top one percent of researchers globally over the past decade. As one of only three listed from the UAE, it underscores the significant impact of his work in engineering and water sustainability.
The NYU scientists and social scientists are part of a group that, according to Clarivate, “contributes disproportionately to extending the frontiers of knowledge and contributing to innovations that make the world healthier, more sustainable and drive societal impact.”
Hilal has supervised 46 PhD students and over 70 postdoctoral fellows, and authored 600+ publications, including patents as well as books. His research focuses on innovative, cost-effective solutions in nano-water, membrane technology, and water treatment. Notably, his work with atomic force microscopy (AFM) has advanced membrane development for challenging separations.
Hilal, whose pioneering research in engineering and water sustainability has earned international acclaim, joins 24 other NYU scientists and social scientists whose impactful contributions have shaped fields ranging from biology and neural science to politics and public health.
