Going Beyond: Abstraction and Categorization

Workshop

WHEN March 31, 2023
WHERE Computational Research Building (A2), Room 127 WHO NYU Abu Dhabi Science Division By Invitation Interested scholars please contact anne.maass@nyu.edu

Going beyond specific instances to arrive at abstract representations is a process common to both, lay cognition and scientific inquiry. This workshop brings together researchers from diverse disciplines (vision research, social cognition, and mathematics) who share a common interest in how broader categories and abstract representations are formed. This question will therefore be addressed from different vantage points and with different methods. The workshop is intended to provide the setting for a constructive exchange of ideas concerning abstraction and categorization. Talks will be about 30 to 40 minutes, followed by a discussion.
