Empowerment on Trial: Encountering Emirati Women’s Voices

WHEN March 28-29, 2018
WHERE Conference Center WHO NYU Abu Dhabi
By Invitation Interested scholars please contact lp75@nyu.edu

This workshop addresses Emirati womanhood from multiple perspectives, involving topics such as women's leadership and empowerment, past and contemporary socio-economic livelihoods, women's (self) representations in history and heritage, family and marriage laws, women's health, as well as the various artistic fields in which Emirati women have come to express themselves.

The workshop also discusses confines and problems that Emirati women are facing in their everyday lives and sheds light on the various ways in which the established discourses and iconographies on gender and womanhood are contested and reinterpreted.
