[T]he best way to learn and make the most of your internship is to cross that barrier early on where you can crack jokes with your employer and you can be open and vulnerable.

The biggest takeaway was just getting to know your employers as well as you can. A lot of the times in this industry, unlike the arts, there’s often a barrier between the employer and the intern or the employee and the employer.
What I’ve learned from this experience, thanks to a small team, is that the best way to learn and make the most of your internship is to cross that barrier early on where you can crack jokes with your employer and you can be open and vulnerable.
Having that experience right after my junior year, I feel, is very important because a year from now, I’m probably going to have a full-time job and just knowing how to make that bond with your employer, I think, was a significant change in me.
