Graduate residences at NYU Abu Dhabi are furnished graduate student apartments set within a mixed co-ed environment. Once the fellowship offer is accepted, apartments are automatically assigned to new graduate students at no cost, for the duration of their time at NYUAD. Apartment assignments are based on their program and a number of other factors. While only students are guaranteed campus housing, reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate spouses and children. The student is responsible for the cost differential if a larger apartment is requested to accommodate dependents. Housing is not provided nor arranged for Global PhD students during their time in New York. Students who share apartments are assigned same-sex roommates.
Graduate residences have studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartments, which are fit to house one, two, or up to four residents respectively. This community is currently a mixed group of researchers, postdocs, and graduate students, which will become predominantly graduate students as program offerings grow. Graduate students who share a 2 bedroom apartment are assigned same-sex roommates, but have their own separate bedroom and bathroom with shower and share a kitchen and lounge space.
Each building has shared laundry facilities on the second level (washers and dryers may not be installed in the apartments). The second level of each building has lounge space and a multipurpose room for residents. The lounge is fully furnished including an oven, small stove, sink, microwave, television, games console, board games, coffee machine, foosball table, and wireless speaker.
Each apartment is fully, while simply, furnished to ease students’ transition to Abu Dhabi. Furnishings differ slightly based on apartment size but generally include bed(s), bedside tables, a desk, chairs or couches based on living room size and a kitchen table if space permits. Standard kitchen appliances include a two-burner stove, oven, microwave, fridge with freezer, and place settings for four. High-speed wireless internet, access to cable television, and utilities are also included.
