Orientation

Global PhD Fellowship Students

NYU Abu Dhabi orientation for graduate students takes place each summer in late July or early August. Students should plan to stay in Abu Dhabi for four to six weeks in order to obtain a valid UAE visa prior to your departure to the New York campus for the start of the fall semester. All new Global PhD students are required to attend the entirety of the orientation program.

What to Expect

Orientation will cover a variety of important topics relating to the student's time in both New York and Abu Dhabi. This time is used to prepare students for the years to come, introducing them to important resources and people in the NYU community. Students will learn about campus housing, health care, public safety, student finances, immigration and visas, and culture in Abu Dhabi and New York, while being provided opportunities to explore Abu Dhabi and the UAE with a cohort of other graduate students.

Activities as part of the orientations in the past have included dinner and events around the city of Abu Dhabi, a visit to some of the city's most beautiful landmarks and exciting attractions, a daytrip to explore Dubai, and a chance to meet faculty, staff, and current students in a variety of settings.

No matter which program you are participating in, your NYUAD orientation will be the first step on your path to being a successful and thriving PhD student. The Graduate and Postdoctoral Programs Office strives for this time to be an exciting introduction to life in Abu Dhabi and New York as a member of our Global PhD Fellowship.
