NYU Abu Dhabi Design Lab

The NYU Abu Dhabi Design Lab is a two-day, immersive experience that brings together top students from the region to collaborate on solving issues of the world. This year’s global topic is sustainability. Students will have the opportunity to have hands-on experience in problem-solving at a university level using their passion for the arts and humanities, science and engineering, and/or social science and business.

Students will be split into three tracks:

  • The arts and humanities
  • The sciences and engineering
  • The social sciences and business

Students will think across academic boundaries, learn research and design thinking techniques, and emerge with a prototype that solves a problem around sustainability. Simultaneously, students will be given the tools and resources to start thinking about the next step in their educational journeys — studying at a top global university.

  • Program dates: Friday, January 27 – Saturday, January 28, 2023
    Application deadline: November 20, 2022

Participants begin arriving the evening of January 26 and depart on January 28, 2023. Selected participants will receive more information on when to arrive and what to pack for the program when decisions are released.

NYU Abu Dhabi will cover all costs associated with the program once participants arrive in-country (accommodation, meals, transportation within the UAE). Participants are responsible for the cost of airfare to attend the program. All rooms will be double occupancy, with students of the same gender rooming together. The University will provide necessary special needs accommodations for students admitted to the program.

A note on parent participation: This program is for students who are preparing to apply for university. It will offer them a unique opportunity to experience a rigorous academic environment firsthand, and prepare them for the application process. As a parent, you are an important part of the process, and we welcome you to travel with your student to Abu Dhabi. Should you choose to travel with your student, you will be responsible for any costs related to your own travel, meals, and room and board throughout your trip.
