Cost of Attendance

The budgets below represent the estimated annual cost (in US dollars) of education for full-time undergraduate students at NYU Abu Dhabi. The calculations are for fall and spring semesters only, which include tuition and school fees, foreign travel for study integral to a student's academic program, food and housing, health insurance, personal expenses, books, and many campus life activities.

Annual adjustments to the costs and fees at NYU Abu Dhabi may be necessary. Estimated travel cost is based on two round trip tickets to and from home and NYU Abu Dhabi each year. Students’ travel costs will vary based on their home location and other factors.

Important Considerations

  • The estimated cost of attendance may differ from a student's charges once they are posted on their university (bursar) bill, as the cost of attendance is an estimated amount.
  • The university bill will be issued by the Student Finance Office every semester that you are enrolled. For questions regarding your bill/charges you may contact Student Finance at nyuad.studentfinance@nyu.edu.
  • Students must be covered by health insurance that originates in the UAE to be eligible for the required entry visa. As such, health insurance is a mandatory fee and charges vary.

How Is Financial Aid Applied to the Cost of Attendance?

The Cost of Attendance (COA) listed represents the estimated annual cost of education to attend NYUAD as a full-time undergraduate student for one academic year. The above COA reflects the fall and spring semesters only. Being enrolled in 12-18 credits is considered being a full-time student. If you are enrolling in summer and/or J-Terms the estimated COA for those semester(s) will be accessible on your NYU Albert Student Center closer to the start of each semester.

Annual adjustments to the costs and fees at NYU Abu Dhabi may be necessary and should be expected. The estimated COA consists of direct and indirect expenses.

Direct expenses are costs that are charged by the university. The Student Finance Office will send out billing notifications each semester. Charges that will be displayed on your university bill will include tuition, registration and services fees, books, health insurance, NYU housing and meals, VAT meals and VAT Insurance. If you have any questions regarding billing or charges please contact the Student Finance Office at nyuad.studentfinance@nyu.edu.

For students whose financial aid offer includes the NYUAD Financial Aid award, the amount offered will apply first to tuition followed by any other billable charges accordingly. If your offer includes the NYUAD Housing Grant, the amount offered will be applied to your NYU housing and food charges.

If you opt out of NYU housing and meal plan, your NYUAD Housing Grant award will be canceled as you will not incur charges for housing and meals through NYU. If you choose to retain only the NYU meal plan your NYUAD Housing Grant will be adjusted.

Indirect expenses are costs, estimated within the COA, that students may incur during the academic year. These estimations can be used for planning purposes. You will not see these costs charged on your semester’s university (bursar) bill. These estimated expenses may vary for each student. Indirect costs include estimated personal and estimated travel expenses.

If your financial aid offer includes the NYUAD Personal Support and NYUAD Travel Support awards, you will receive additional information from the Student Finance Office and the Office of Global Education on how those awards will be provided.

The Student Finance Office will distribute the personal support (Falcon Dirhams) for eligible students each semester. For additional questions you may email nyuad.studentfinance@nyu.edu.

The Office of Global Education administers travel for home and study away semesters for eligible students. For additional questions you may email nyuad.studyawaysupport@nyu.edu.

Travel Planning

It is important to note if your financial aid has the NYUAD Travel Support award (home travel) listed, please do not make your own travel arrangements. The Office of Global Education will provide more information and instructions about your travel to Abu Dhabi in mid-May.

If your financial aid does not include the travel support award, please make sure you book your flight landing in Abu Dhabi during the scheduled move-in dates for Marhaba. Due to UAE visa regulations, it is necessary for all flights to be booked for arrival in Abu Dhabi (not Dubai or Sharjah).

Please note that in mid-May you will also receive more information about the UAE visa process. Once the visa procurement process begins, please do not plan any kind of travel through the UAE prior to Marhaba as this would invalidate the entry permit the University will be arranging for you.

If you have any questions about travel and visa requirements you may send your inquiry to the Office of Global Education — Student Mobility at: nyuad.studentmobility@nyu.edu.

Financial Aid for Study Away, J-Term, and Summer Session

Study Away

The NYU tuition, registration and services fees, NYUAD health insurance, and AD Insurance VAT charges will be similar as if you were studying in Abu Dhabi when enrolling in an NYU global site for your study away semester. NYU housing and food charges will vary depending on your selected study site. Your financial aid for the semester away will apply the same way towards these charges.

It is important to note that some of the costs while studying away may differ from when you are studying in Abu Dhabi. Such differences may be in your NYU housing/food or travel costs. For planning purposes we recommend that you review the estimated Study Away Costs for each NYU global site from the NYU Office of Global Programs.

We also advise students to contact the NYUAD Office of Global Education at nyuad.studyawaysupport@nyu.edu for questions regarding the study away process.

J-Term (January/June)

NYUAD tuition, program fee, and on-campus housing and meal charges will be covered by NYU Abu Dhabi for up to three J-Term sessions. Depending on demonstrated academic need as determined by Academic Affairs, a fourth J-Term may also be supported.

Summer Study

NYUAD tuition, registration and services fees, and on-campus housing and meal charges will be covered by NYU Abu Dhabi for one summer course in Abu Dhabi. Additional summer terms may be supported based on demonstrated academic need as determined by Academic Affairs.
