Research Areas: Vascular Biomechanics; Haemodynamics; Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI)
Zubeir Allum Saib is an Associate Instructor in Bioengineering at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with first class honours from the University of Cape Town in 2021. He was also conferred a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from the American University of Sharjah in 2023. Zubeir briefly served as a biomedical engineer at Ducray Lenoir Ltd in 2024, before joining NYUAD.
Allum Saib is academically interested in the vascular biomechanics and haemodynamics associated with implants such as stents and flow diverters in the human circulatory system. He is passionate about Finite Element Analysis and Fluid Structure Interaction studies to assess the vessel wall structural mechanics and flow patterns of blood inside stenotic arteries as well as aneurysms. For his master's thesis, he simulated the deployment of a nitinol stent within a stenosed coronary artery coupled with varying degrees of plaque calcification, using the Finite Element Method. His research objective is the optimization of stent design features, in addition to non-geometrical factors, to hinder restenosis rates in stented vasculatures.
