Julian Barreiro-Gomez received his MSc degree in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes (UniAndes), Bogota, Colombia, in 2013 and 2017, respectively. He also received the Ph.D. degree (cum laude) in Automatic Control, Robotics and Computer Vision from the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 2017.

Barreiro-Gomez received the Best PhD Thesis in Control Engineering 2017 award from the Spanish National Committee of Automatic Control (CEA) and Springer, and the Best Ph.D. Thesis in Europe in the Field of Control for Complex and Heterogeneous Systems 2017 awarded by the European Embedded Control Institute (EECI).  He received the ISA Transactions Best Paper Award 2018 in recognition of the best paper published in ISA Transactions in the previous year, as determined by a review committee, with the paper “Dynamical tuning for MPC using population games: A water supply network application.” Since 2018, he has been a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is the author of the book The Role of Population Games in the Design of Optimization-Based Controllers: A Large-scale Insight, published by Springer Cham in 2019, and co-author of the book Mean-Field-Type Games for Engineers, published by CRC Press in 2021.  His main research interests are: Optimal Control, Dynamic Games, Machine Learning, and Engineering Applications with emphasis in Multi-Agent Systems.
