The NYU Abu Dhabi campus is accessible for those with disabilities/ people of determination.

NYUAD may be able to make reasonable modifications (sometimes referred to as an accommodation) to remove workplace barriers to enable employees with disabilities, either permanent or temporary, to better perform their jobs, once needs are evaluated. NYUAD works with the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO), New York University’s (NYU) coordinator for compliance with the employment provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified prospective and current employees with disabilities unless doing so would cause undue hardship.

Workplace Modification Requests

The interactive process of requesting reasonable adjustments, in writing or verbally, can be initiated by:

  1. an employee;
  2. an applicant; or
  3. someone acting on that person’s behalf, such as an employee’s manager or a recruitment officer during the selection process.

In addition to physical modifications to equipment or facilities, NYUAD can also consider ways of altering the manner in which a job is done in order to allow a disabled employee to perform the essential functions of their job.

Documents Required The OEO may require that the person provide medical documentation confirming that they have a disability and recommending a potential solution for NYUAD to consider as a reasonable accommodation.
Temporary Disabilities Services We also assist employees and/or applicants with temporary disabilities. Employees and/or applicants with temporary disabilities must follow the same registration procedures. When appropriate, accommodations are approved on a temporary basis.

Registering as a Person of Determination in the UAE

The Ministry of Community Development can issue a personal card to people of determination who are UAE nationals or residents. This is an official document that ensures the holder of the rights and services established in the Federal Persons with Disabilities Law No. 29 of 2006. Services include parking permits, discounts, and free entrance to a number of museums and parks (a full list is available here).
