Inclusion and Equity

The Office for Faculty Advancement and Engagement develops and implements strategies and programs so that all faculty can excel as scholars, teachers, and impactful members of the academic community.

Excellence.  Opportunities.  Innovation

The Office of Inclusion and Equity (OIE) is responsible for leading and advancing NYU Abu Dhabi’s implementation of practices, programs, and policies that foster inclusion, diversity, belonging, and equity (IDBE) in the workplace. It primarily serves faculty, staff, academic support, post-doctoral, and research employees. The OIE provides leadership, consultation, and programming to strengthen policies and structures and collaborates with various stakeholders to help NYUAD become a more diverse and inclusive institution. The OIE reports directly to the Office of the Vice Chancellor.

The OIE aims to establish and sustain a thriving inclusive community at NYU Abu Dhabi that supports, fosters, and engages the research and intellectual curiosity of our diverse students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni.

We are a dynamic global community where inclusion and academic excellence are interdependent. Our teaching, pedagogy, research, and emerging leadership creates and promotes globally relevant productions of new knowledge to prepare our students for a diverse, complex, and ever-changing world.

NYU Abu Dhabi’s commitment to building and strengthening a university-wide culture of inclusion, diversity, belonging, and equity led to the creation of the Office of Inclusion and Equity. As part of the Office of the Vice Chancellor, we provide expert consultation, tools, resources, and innovative strategies to help guide NYUAD leaders, faculty, and staff alike towards a more inclusive future based on sustainable practices.

We do this through:

Epert Consultation and Advice

Answering questions and providing guidance to supervisors, units, departments, academic divisions, groups, and employees on equity and inclusion practices, diversity challenges, and preventative or problem-solving strategies (e.g., mitigating unconscious bias, etc.).

Awareness Education

Providing and sponsoring awareness sessions and customized workshops on a variety of topics tailored to various campus needs and constituencies in order to encourage an environment of continued learning, development, and self-reflection.

Leadership Development for Faculty and Staff

Developing leadership initiatives such as mentoring programs, learning modules, and resources to promote the development of faculty and staff and ready them to lead in our globally diverse community. Works in close partnership with the Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity and the Office of Employee Relations.

Intercultural Fluency

Partnering with other departments such as Spiritual Life and Intercultural Education (SLICE) and Learning and Organizational Development to co-sponsor workshops and learning programs for the ongoing development of intercultural fluency.

Compliance Monitoring of Employment Practices

Working collaboratively with  Equal Opportunity Officer, David Smart and Human Resources to periodically track and analyze equity in hiring, pay, promotion, workplace modifications, and other NYUAD employment practices to support consistency and fairness.
