Shaping Healthier Lives Through Prediction, Precision, and Personalization

At NYU Abu Dhabi, researchers are working to better understand how diseases develop, how the body responds to illness and injury, and how healthcare can be tailored to individual needs. From uncovering the genetic drivers of disease to applying artificial intelligence in clinical settings, their research is helping create new ways to predict, diagnose, and treat some of the world's most significant health challenges.

From Discovery to Better Health

Bringing together expertise across disciplines, our researchers are uncovering how genomes evolve, how tissues repair themselves, how the brain functions, and how diseases emerge and progress. These discoveries are deepening our understanding of human health while supporting earlier diagnosis, more targeted treatments, and better approaches to preventing and managing disease.

A Healthier Future for Everyone

From AI-powered diagnostics and predictive genomic tools to regenerative medicine, precision cancer therapies, and advanced medical technologies, NYUAD researchers are turning scientific discovery into solutions that can improve lives. Their work aims to help patients receive more personalized care, support healthier communities, and contribute to healthcare systems that are more predictive, preventative, and precise, benefiting people in the UAE and around the world.

NYU Abu Dhabi Study Reveals How Cells Respond Differently to a Cancer-Causing Gene

Researchers at NYU Abu Dhabi have discovered that a single cancer-causing gene can trigger different responses in cells, with some helping to prevent tumors while others may contribute to their development.

The study, published in EMBO Reports, found that the gene can trigger several forms of cellular senescence, a natural defense in which damaged cells stop dividing to help prevent cancer, a so-called tumor-suppressive function inherent to all cells.

Center for Brain and Health

The Center for Brain and Health, an NYUAD Research Institute center, draws on existing strengths in Cognition, Health, and Data Science at NYUAD, the UAE, and NYU’s Global Network. The research projects are strategically positioned in themes at the intersection of these strengths, allowing us to leverage existing resources to develop new interdisciplinary research directions.

Despite the remarkable regenerative capacity of the liver, it is not always able to undergo efficient repair. Thus, diseases of the liver are common and a long-term goal of our research is to identify targets to treat them. We use zebrafish as a model system to accomplish these goals.

Center for Genomics and Systems Biology (CGSB)

The Center for Genomics and Systems Biology (CGSB) at NYUAD has been a nexus for cutting-edge life science research in the United Arab Emirates for over a decade. With world-class facilities and resources at its disposal, the Center’s mission is to promote innovative advances in genomics and systems biology.
