Billy Moore utilizes physiological and genomic approaches to assess the response and adaptive capacity of fish to increasing temperatures. During his PhD at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, he conducted genome assembly/annotation of multiple anemonefish species, before assessing the response of early-life stage clownfish to ocean warming through physiological measurements and transcriptomic sequencing.
At NYUAD, Moore's research is focused on investigating the mechanisms of thermal tolerance in fish inhabiting the extreme Arabian Gulf environment. Here, he combines physiological measurements with transcriptomic/genomic sequencing, with the aim of identifying unique physiological traits in Arabian Gulf fish and linking them to the underlying molecular processes and genotypes.
