Talk

WHEN Friday, October 23, 2026
WHERE New York, NY WHO 19 Washington Square North Faculty Fellows Program By Invitation Interested scholars please contact 19wsn.fellows@nyu.edu

This panel considers how artists and writers copy, repurpose, translate, and replicate texts and artwork to strategically insert themselves in discourses like indigenism, surrealism, and conceptualism in print media in the modern and contemporary period. We will consider how such visual traditions have been represented, reinterpreted, and circulated through art and print, as well as the possibilities and tensions that emerge from these encounters. Each speaker will present for ten minutes, followed by a conversation and reception. Those attending are then welcome to register for an afternoon archival workshop on magazines in NYU’s Special Collections led by Lori Cole (NYU), Mariana Rodriguez-Barreno (University of Oxford), and Terri Geis (NYUAD). Register for the panel here and the workshop here.
