Global 1945

Conference

WHEN November 17-18, 2026
9 AM - 5 PM WHERE NYU Greece WHO NYU Abu Dhabi Institute By Invitation Interested scholars please contact nyuad.programs@nyu.edu

This conference examines 1945 as an inflection point, focusing on Europe's relations to other regions, taking a global or comparative approach that considers imperial, politico-economic, and international dimensions. Early postwar culture also deserves closer attention. How do we think about the role of 1945 in a history of “Global Europe?” How do we think about the birth of the modern Middle East at the same time? About Europe’s loss of power, about the sources and structures that enabled as much geopolitical as social and intellectual transformations, about what this period transformed, ushered in, and saw come to an end.
