Although women remain underrepresented in diplomacy—holding just 21% of ambassadorial posts worldwide in 2024—recent years have seen notable progress. This panel brings together international scholars and practitioners to examine the state of women’s leadership in diplomacy and multilateral organizations. Drawing on new research, including the 2024 LSE report and AGDA’s Women in Diplomacy Index, panelists will explore the factors behind persistent disparities, regional variations, and the impact of evolving organizational structures. They will also share professional experiences and policy solutions to strengthen women’s leadership and shape a more accessible and representative global diplomatic landscape.
