Over half of low-income countries are under high levels of debt distress. International financial institutions, creditor and debtor states respond to the pressures of their domestic audiences, geopolitical interests, and bureaucratic imperatives as they navigate the life-cycle of both official and private debt. This workshop explores the domestic and geo-politics of sovereign finance, distress, and resolution, with a particular focus on international financial institutions, debt transparency, and the rise of new creditors such as China and the Gulf states, among other topics.
