The Messiness of Animal Domestication

Talk

WHEN April 15, 2025
4:30-6 PM EST WHERE 19 Washington Square North, New York WHO NYU Abu Dhabi Institute in New York Open to the Public

We are all intuitively familiar with domestic plants and animals. We understand a great deal less about the origins and evolutionary history of domestication, and the stories we tell ourselves about the emergence of domestic species tend to be simple and linear, when the reality is not so much. This talk explores the histories of a number of domestic animals and demonstrates how their long-term relationships with people are both more complex and more interesting than we tend to appreciate.
