For the first event of the 2024-2025 academic year, the CURATORS TALK series is hosting art historian and curator Salwa Mikdadi. A world-renowned specialist on the history of modern and contemporary art of the Arab world, Mikdadi is the founding Director and Principal Investigator of the Al Mawrid Arab Center for the Study of Art, as well as Professor of Practice of Art History at New York University Abu Dhabi. In her talk, Professor Mikdadi will focus on her curatorial practice, which spans over 40 years. Mikdadi will focus on select curatorial projects, drawing parallels between her exhibition-making and the political changes and shifts in the region. She will also trace the archival work that led to the establishment of the Al Mawrid Arab Center for the Study of Art, and expand on her ongoing projects there.
