In Entwined, artist Susan Doe unveils a series of paintings, sculptures, and installations through which she explores ideas of intersectionality, rooted in her own bicultural upbringing. Reflecting on her Chinese American background, the artist blends together disparate elements to create something unexpected. Through this process, she plays with illusions of materiality, making metal threads appear soft and weaving paper to mimic large solid sculptures.

Susan Doe earned her BS in Business Administration and BA in Studio Arts (2010) from Pepperdine University in California, and her MFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design (2017). Upon graduating from RISD in the US, Doe moved to the UAE, where she became the Artist-in-Residence at Bait 15, followed by a residency at the Cultural Foundation. She has exhibited her work in institutions globally, most recently including the Cultural Foundation, Digital Art Gallery, Bait 15 (all UAE); REN Gallery, 315 Gallery, Rhode Island Convention Center, Sol Koffler Gallery, RISD Museum (all US); and Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Art (Hong Kong).
