Explore the reality of young Emirati women in a reprise production of this poetic contemporary theater work, developed at NYU Abu Dhabi.
Award winning director Joanna Settle and NYUAD Alumni Reem Almenhali present a revival of the 2020 theater production that explores the depth and diversity of life as a woman in the UAE. Weaving rich Arabic and English language poetry with a backdrop of images and movement, Al Raheel | Departure explores womanhood and the future. It reflects on a body that stays while a world changes.
The performance has been collaboratively developed from a series of poems written in response to women persisting and developing across childhood, womanhood, and aging. Al Raheel | Departure is co-commissioned by The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi and Cultural Foundation.
The performance is bilingual in Arabic and English. To accomplish a bilingual performance the show makes use of live and projected language in both languages.
