How can we ensure a safe and continuous co-existence on planet Earth? How are we going to meet our needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs? To maintain a sustainable lifestyle, there is a need for natural resources as well as social and economic resources. This year has been declared the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development and the Division of Science at NYUAD is organizing a conference to explore a range of pressing issues related to sustainability in the region and beyond. Topics for discussion will include water and agriculture, land use, health, urbanization, transport, and cultural heritage. The goals are to provide a forum for our community to identify points of intersection and mutual research interests, to enhance our efforts towards sustainable research at NYUAD and across the UAE, and to positively impact our society.
