Ticket Information

Classical Pianist Ioannis Potamousis presents an evening of music composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

oannis Potamousis, described by the Pasatiempo as “New Colossus of the Keys”, is internationally acclaimed as a charismatic and passionate performer. He is known for his captivating artistry and introspective, poetic expression.

The program features works composed by beloved musician and towering pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff for solo piano and two pianos. It includes a selection from the “Moments Musicaux”, Suite No 1 for two pianos as well as Rachmaninoff’s Piano Sonata No 2. Rachmaninoff composed six lyrical pieces that are rich in character, mood, and style. Each piece of op. 16 reproduces a musical form of the previous musical periods and displays all the artistic possibilities of the piano. Rachmaninoff’s vision of Suite No 1 was to compose “a series of musical pictures”, hence the title Fantaisie-tableaux. Each movement is inspired by poetry and portrays a varied pallet of colors, emotions, and sounds from nature and life: water, bird calls, human tears, and bells for the Russian church. The recital will conclude with Rachmaninoff’s second piano sonata. The revised version of the sonata shows the composer’s ingenuity to combine pianistic power and musical mastery as convincingly as his piano concertos.
