The landmark exhibition Inventing Abstraction, 1910-1925. How a Radical Idea Changed Modern Art at the Museum of Modern Art New York in 2012 was limited in its scope to the formative years of abstract art. The “radical idea”, however, was changed itself radically in subsequent developments. One has to ask how the early developments of abstract art have to be reconsidered in the light of parallel and later developments. The art history workshop Abstraction: Transgressed, Transcribed, Digitalized discusses artistic endeavors that provoke these questions.
