The Poet’s Eye: How Poetry Can Teach Us to See the World, and More of It

Talk

6:30-8 PM WHERE NYUAD Campus, Conference Center WHO NYU Abu Dhabi Institute Open to the Public

What people often take away from a poem is its musicality, and the quality of its language. But society can also think of poems as the most ancient form of virtual reality—more interactive than visual art—that allows people to see the world as the poet sees it. This talk examines the question; how can people read a poem to appreciate its visual strategies and, ultimately, its suggestions as to how the world should be seen?
