Synthetic biology is a new and interdisciplinary area of research combining biology, engineering, chemistry, and computer science for modifying biological systems to perform useful functions. These objectives are often achieved by designing new biological circuits and devices, or introducing new metabolic pathways in organisms for enhanced generation of desired products from sustainable resources. The internationally recognized speakers of this workshop will cover a number of key areas in synthetic biology by describing their latest work on biological circuits and co-factors, engineering plant cells for vitamin production, and construction of minimal synthetic genomes in bacteria.
