Peaceland: : Conflict Resolution and the Everyday Politics of International Intervention

Talk

WHEN September 13, 2017
6:30-8 PM WHERE NYUAD Campus, Conference Center WHO NYU Abu Dhabi Institute Open to the Public

This lecture suggests a new explanation for why international peace interventions so often fail to reach their full potential. Based on several years of research in conflict zones around the world, everyday elements – such as the expatriates’ social habits and common approaches to understanding their areas of operation – strongly influence peacebuilding effectiveness. Through an in-depth analysis of the interveners’ everyday life and work, the speaker proposes innovative ways to better help host populations build a sustainable peace.
