Demographic forecasts indicate the world population will reach nine billion by 2050, with 70 percent of the world's population living in urban areas. One main challenge is addressing unmet and growing needs for mobility. Examples like electric vehicles and traffic analytics in mobile phones (and vehicle dashboards) have helped reshape transportation engineering as a profession and offer opportunities and challenges that did not exist five years ago. This symposium provides a forum for learning about recent developments in demand modeling, electric vehicles, and cybersecurity related challenges in transportation.
