Given their significant environmental footprints, their diverse and rapidly changing communities, and their commitment to innovation and aggressive sustainability goals for new developments, Gulf Cooperation Council nations are on the cusp of transforming themselves into global environmental leaders. However, ambitious government projects must work in tandem with local communities. The majority of companies doing business in the GCC nations are foreign owned and operated. The majority of residents in the GCC nations are foreign nationals residing there temporarily. Yet the conduct of these individuals and corporations has a permanent impact on local society and the environment. This panel discussion engages in answering the following question: How do we embrace civic responsibility, environmental aspirations, and the dynamism of an international community to drive sustainable behavior in the region?
