Conscious experience and mental representation are the two most fundamental aspects of the mind. “Consciousness and Semantic Externalism” explores the relation between the two through the lens of semantic externalism, according to which the representational nature of a mental state is determined by factors outside the individual. This conference brings together many of the finest researchers working on these topics for two days of intense discussion on the relations between consciousness, semantic externalism, phenomenal concepts, representationalism, and the explanatory gap.
The events on Friday, May 12 will take place at NYUAD, located at 19 Washington Square North, and the events on Saturday, May 13 will take place at the NYU Department of Philosophy, located at 5 Washington Place, Room 202.
