Interdisciplinary Workshop for the Mathematics and Philosophy of Physics (IWMP2)

Workshop

WHEN April 28-29, 2017
9 AM - 5 PM WHERE Abu Dhabi WHO NYU Abu Dhabi Institute By Invitation Interested scholars please contact nyuad.programs@nyu.edu

Physics has seen tremendous progress since the beginning of the 20th century. However, this progress has come at a cost. On the theoretical side, it has led to the use of increasingly sophisticated mathematical techniques, and on the experimental side it has tested the limits of what can be experimentally proven. This has led to a circumstance where some of the most advanced physical theories are now being developed in an "experimental vacuum,” calling into question the very essence of the scientific method. It is our belief that further development in physics be grounded in solid mathematical and philosophical foundations, and that at present we have a unique opportunity for mathematicians and philosophers to make important contributions to the field. This workshop brings together physicists, mathematicians, and philosophers in order to exchange ideas on topics of common interest, starting with a series of non-technical lectures and culminating in an open discussion. Scholars interested in the program are welcome to contact the institute on nyuad.programs@nyu.edu
