Lessons from the Past: Reflections on Historic Architecture in the UAE

Talk

WHEN January 31, 2016
6:30-8 PM WHERE NYUAD Campus, Conference Center WHO NYU Abu Dhabi Institute Open to the Public

The environment of the UAE poses specific localized problems for builders and residents. Historic architecture pioneered solutions to these problems. A review of how, where, when, and why people built and lived here reveals opportunities for today's architects and designers who want sustainable design ideas that respond to local issues. One of the key factors for survival in the UAE prior to oil was an intimate and responsive relationship with the land and sea – a quality sometimes lost in modern design.
