Space and time are abstractions that historians use pragmatically. Critical discussions emerge periodically about how spatial ideas shape historical studies and how to improve these ideas to meet new intellectual needs. Such discussions are increasingly important. This conference convenes historians from many fields to explore the historicity of space and spatiality of History. Participants take stock of current trends in theory and practice, and discuss useful ideas to guide future research and teaching.
