Arabic Theater in Translation: Language, Culture, and Politics

Playwrights and translators reflect on the joys and complexities of moving plays from Arabic to English including models of translation and the specific challenges of creating vibrant English interpretations of dramatic texts distinct from poetry, literature, and non-fiction. Panelists share their experiences, as well as excerpts of translated texts, and address such topics as translating from classical and contemporary Arabic, illuminating culture through translation, and working collaboratively with actors and directors.

Simultaneous Arabic interpretation will be provided.
